About Dr Kothari

Dr Swetha Thakkar graduated from Manipal University, India in 2006.

Since migrating to Australia in 2009, she enjoyed working at Nepean Hospital. Along with her overseas experience she has worked in different subspecialties within Paediatrics including NICU, Allergy, Behavioural Paediatrics and General Paediatrics for 5 years.

She had the opportunity to work as an SRMO rotating through different specialties and learning about Indigenous health at Royal Darwin hospital. She worked in New Castle GP practices for 3 years to complete her GP training.

She enjoys all aspects of general practice with particular interest in Women and Children’s health.

Dr Thakkar has a special interest in the assessment and management of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
She provides evidence-based, patient-centred care for children, adolescents, and adults with ADHD, supporting individuals and families through diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management

Dr Thakkar holds Medicare approved General Authority as a GP to prescribe ADHD medications. She is an authorised continuation prescriber of psychostimulant medications, including Ritalin, Concerta, Dexamphetamine, and Vyvanse, for the management of ADHD in children aged over 6 years and in adults who are already under the care of a Specialist Paediatrician or Psychiatrist. A letter from the Specialist is necessary for co-management with Dr Thakkar. 

Outside of work, Swetha’s interests include spending time with her family, reading novels and playing music.
